Amazon Launched a Social Network Feature Spark for Shopping and Discovering Products

Spark is Social feature presented by Amazon for its premium paying Prime members to showcase and purchase products on their platforms by sharing their photos and videos just same as social media platforms. The main purpose of this feature is to improve product discovery.

This is the first clear move of the Amazon in the world of social media. This new feature was launched publicly on Tuesday from a device that use Apple’s iOS operating system. Anyone can be a member by contributing to Spark but you have to be an Amazon Prime member because Non-Prime member can browse feeds but can not post of comment.

For Amazon’s Spark you have to use Amazon mobile app, because this feature is not designed for desktop at this time. When you have completed the setup, Spark offers user to tag products which are available on Amazon on their post. So that if someone open the post and browse the feed, they can instantly find the product and there will be a shopping bag icon in the bottom right corner with a number that informs how many items from the photo can be purchased, on the same platform. There are also emojis, smilies same as the other social media provides.

According to Amazon spoke person,

“We created Spark to allow customers to discover and shop-stories and ideas from a community that likes what they like.”

“When customers first visit Spark, they select at least five interests they would like to follow and we will create a feed of relevant content contributed by others. Customers shop their feed by tapping on product links or photos with the shopping bag icon.

Amazon invited publishers and bloggers including paid influencers to write down about their new feature “Spark”.


Lucas Miller, Community manager said: “So #amazonspark is going to be a dangerous pastime. The 
app is already too easy to shop...”

Jill Richardson, brand strategist said : “Been messing with #AmazonSpark all morning and i am LIVING. It’s like Pinterest, Instagram and my credit card had a baby and it’s beautiful.”

This service is a cross between Instagram and Pinterest with a touch of e-commerce according to the users of Amazon.

In future, Amazon will generate some sort of opportunities for users to earn money by posting and sharing links. This is the way to challenge the other social media giants for creating their own worth.
