Pakistan telecom authority (PTA) has recommended the social media giant Facebook management to link
opening of facebook accounts via mobile numbers to resolve the issue of fake
accounts and blasphemous content online on July 13, 2017.
Facebook is also
trying to resolve the issue of fake accounts and blasphemous contents, that’s why they have build a team in London
which will manage the Newspaper
Instant article paywall service.
Facebook has selected a focal person to coordinate with
Pakistan Telecom Authority for taking an action against any reported issue. They
said that they will improve the cooperation and response on time.
In Pakistan, mobile numbers are activated through bio metric
verification system. Accounts are being opening with Email, which is not a
perfect way to trap. But mobile number verification account is a best way to
overcome the fake account and blasphemous contents online.
PTA received about 6000 online complaints including 350 blasphemous contents that were ultimately blocked. Syed Ismail Shah, chairman
of PTA was briefing about the 12,977 URLs
of blasphemous content which are blocked so far.
PTA has a web analysis
cell in which 25 personnel are working on identifying the illegal and unethical
content on internet. And Facebook administration has blocked 137 blasphemous links since Feb 2017
.
Pakistan asked the requisite date from Facebook to help Law Enforcement Agencies
(LEAs). And Facebook said that it received around 1000 requests in 2016 from
Pakistan and about 70 percent Of them have been compiled with and that they will
continue to support such requests.
