The CEO of The Boring Company, lead designer at SpaceX and
Co-Founder of Tesla, Elon Musk got a verbal approval from government to start
building an ultra-high-speed vacuum train “Hyperloop” that would connect four
Northeastern cities: New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington in 29
mins, Tweeted on Thursday.
The Chief executive of electric car maker Tesla Inc and
SpaceX rocket company, Musk is seeking to revolutionize the transportation
system by sending passengers and cargo packed into pods through an intercity
system of vacuum tubes known as “Hyperloop”.
He explained no details about this project and approval. But
according to White house spokesperson, President Donald Trump in March met with
Elon Musk, and they discussed the idea of The Boring Company and Elon also
talked about his plans to launch a mission to Mars.
According to Mike Dunn, spokesperson of Philadelphia city
government, Musk has not contacted Philadelphia officials about his plan. He said:
“We don’t know what he means when he says he received government approval. There
are numerous hurdles for this unproven hyperloop technology before it can
become reality.”

Jr. also denied knowledge of a plan to tunnel on the eastern seaboard. “This is
my first time hearing this; none of this has come to the community boards,”
Musk said later: “If you want this to happen fast, please
let your local and federal elected representatives know. Makes a big difference
if they hear from you.”
White house spokesperson said: “We have had promising
conversations to date, are committed to trans-formative infrastructure projects,
and believe our greatest solutions have often come from the ingenuity and drive
of the private sector,”
This is true the Musk has been in talks with different city
representatives about his plans of tunnel-boring , but he has mentioned an East
Coast project first time.
Musk has also been in Preliminary talks with Chicago Mayor
about digging a tunnel which would connect downtown Chicago with O’Hare
International Airport.
Musk also said that there is “still a lot of work needed to
receive formal approval,” but he is sure about the permission of this huge
project very soon.
Washington to New
York currently takes three hours and 20 mins by An Amtrak ride according to
passenger railroad company's website.
He said in December, that he wanted to build a tunnel boring
machine because traffic was driving him “nuts.”
Musk said, to dig tunnels under Los Angeles is a low stress
activity because everyone expects it to fail. And he promise with Los Angeles
Mayor Eric Garcetti about moving forward with the project, but to receive a
permit from the city.
Musk said the tunnel will be used to transport people and
cars through an Electric Skate. And the tunnel in Los Angeles would support a
high-speed rail.
During
an April TED talk, Musk said that boring the tunnels is a very expensive
process. Today cost as much as $i billion per mile and they are looking to
minimize the costs by a factor of 10 or more, by building a machine that could
dig and also place the reinforcements in the wall at the same time.
